Libraries

Western Michigan university has got the different sections which helps students to get the matter easily. The student can search for articles, books, journals, subjects, type or format, images etc. the has got their library membership card as a student so then get the books easily and the library staff is available to guide the students in a proper way.

Library Collections

Central Reference. The Central Reference Collection contains general materials such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, biographical sources, bibliographies, indexes, and statistical works. It includes a wealth of research volumes in the following subject areas: Business, Humanities, Law, and Social Sciences.

Children-Young Adult Collection. This collection serves primarily as a resource and examination center for classes in English, education and early childhood education. It makes available the best writing in the field, including fiction, non-fiction, and picture books. It also includes a substantial amount of material at the middle and high school reading levels.

Government Documents. WMU Libraries' currently receive about 75% of all publications available from the Government Printing Office (GPO). These selections are based on the needs of the University community and the citizens of Michigan's 6th Congressional District. The library is also a depository of Michigan state documents. Access to the holdings of the depository library is free to all. This includes the online and electronic material.

Map Collection. The map collection is a non-circulating reference collection of maps, atlases, gazetteers, soil surveys, and climatological publications. In 1969 the library became a depository for United States Geological Survey maps. The collection now contains over 190,000 maps and 2,600 atlases.

Science Reference. The collection contains the reference and research sources in Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, and all areas of Medicine and Engineering. The Science Reference desk is also the service point for all current periodicals, newspapers, and the associated microfilm editions of periodicals and newspapers.

Special Collections & Rare Book Room. Contains a collection of medieval manuscripts, incunabula (books printed before 1501), and other books printed before 1800. Other significant collections include the Lincoln collection of books, pamphlets, offprints and memorabilia accumulated by Dwight B. Waldo, the first president of the University; an historical collection of juvenile literature; and a collection of miniature books spanning two decades of the art of printing miniature books.

Videotape, DVD & Film Collection. Located in room #3005 of Sangren Hall, the Videotape, DVD and 16mm Film Collection has an instructional collection of over 6,000 videotapes, DVD's, and 16mm films. Videotaptes and DVDs are also found in the Music & Dance Library, Dalton Center, room #3006.

Center for Research Libraries Catalog. CRL is a consortium of North American universities, colleges, and independent research libraries. The consortium acquires and preserves traditional and digital resources for research and teaching and makes them available to member institutions through interlibrary loan and electronic delivery.
